1. CamInv E-Invoicing
Cambodia’s national e-invoicing system, CamInv, is administered by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. It is a centralised clearance model: invoices are submitted, validated and approved before they count as legally valid tax documents.
This is the single biggest dividing line between accounting tools in Cambodia. Ask any software vendor directly: “Does your system connect to CamInv natively, or do I need a separate tool?” If the answer is a separate tool, you will end up running tax compliance as a parallel manual process — every single day, reconciled by hand.
Both routes can eventually produce a compliant invoice, but the difference lies in how many systems have to stay in sync — and who is stuck doing the manual work to keep them aligned.
2. Khmer Language on Final Documents, not just on screen
There is a huge difference between typing Khmer into an input field on screen and having Khmer render correctly on a printed invoice or PDF export. Always test this before committing: create a draft invoice with Khmer customer and line-item names, then export it to PDF and print it out.
You should also check whether master data can store both a Khmer name and an English name simultaneously, allowing your records to work seamlessly for your operational team and your external accountant at the same time.
3. USD Books with Official KHR Rate Tracking
While accounting in Cambodia is predominantly USD-based in daily practice, legal compliance requires proper KHR conversion rates. Asking “does it support multi-currency?” misses the point. The critical questions are:
- Which exchange rate is applied, and as of which date? Official daily exchange rates (such as those published by the National Bank of Cambodia) must be used — not a rate entered from memory, and not a monthly average.
- Is the exchange rate audit-ready? Is the exact conversion rate hardcoded onto the transaction record? If you cannot reproduce the exact rate a year later, you cannot defend it in an audit.
- Is multi-currency included? Is this built into standard plans, or locked behind a top-tier subscription fee?

4. Structured Legal Identity Fields
Your official Registration Number and Tax Identification Number (TIN) belong in dedicated, structured database fields on the company profile — not typed into generic comments or note boxes.

When something goes wrong in your general ledger on a Friday afternoon, you need an answer that day. Before buying, verify the support team’s language availability, communication channels, and time zone — don’t just check if a “24/7 help center” exists on paper.

Comparing entry prices alone is misleading, because plans include different numbers of user seats. At equal team sizes, using published standard list prices:

Vithean’s plans include 2, 3 and 5 users; beyond that, a seat is $7 per month. That is where the ten-user figure comes from — $45 for Advanced plus five seats at $7 — rather than from a quote.
The pattern is worth stating plainly: Vithean is the most cost-effective option for small teams. Xero generally becomes cheaper than Vithean once you reach about five users because its plans include unlimited seats. If you have a larger team and the local requirements above do not apply to you, that is a clear advantage worth weighing.

We would rather you choose the right tool than force a bad fit. We recommend looking closely at QuickBooks Online or Xero if:
- You operate in multiple countries: If you need native tax compliance across several jurisdictions, an international platform is ideal. Vithean is built for Cambodia and does not attempt to cover other jurisdictions.
- You have a large team: Xero includes unlimited user seats on its plans. Beyond roughly five users, Xero will likely be cheaper and simpler to administer.
- You rely on a large app ecosystem: If you need extensive third-party integrations (e-commerce platforms, payment processors, expense tools, specialized payroll), both have hundreds of connections. Ours is much smaller.
- Your accountant or investors require it: If your external advisors work exclusively in QuickBooks or Xero and refuse to change, that is a practical constraint worth respecting.
